Path, the newest social network that draws the line on friendships

Path is a social network startup intended for iPhone users to share photos online. But while a proliferation of friends is common on most social networks, Path only lets users maintain a circle of fifty. Path is a welcome change of pace, according to some, while self-imposed restricts portend its imminent doom, according to others.

iPhone app Path limits to 50 buddies with sharing

There is a new iPhone app that is a social networking service called Path. It’s unlike all the other Facebook wannabe websites in that just fifty buddies are allowed at probably the most to be on there. It also wants the Path iPhone posts to be private while on there. Both Facebook and Twitter have a policy of having more buddies than everyone else. Path on the other hand thinks that after so many people are angry about Facebook privacy setting issues, they might enjoy using a more private and intimate group to join. Facebook and Twitter spreading so much personal details has made some people really upset. In fact, those over 30 have been really angry about it.

fifty friend is the Path maximum

Path makes it so it’s known to be diverse than everyone else. The fifty friend limit is the biggest thing that sets it apart. Former Facebook executive Dave Morin introduced a Path on a blog. He said that Oxford Professor of Evolutionary Psychology Robin Dunbar said, “150 is the maximum number of social relationships that the human brain can sustain at any given time.” There are just fifty people who a person can really trust as a valuable friend Dunbar states which is how he looks at personal relationships. This means that on Path, in theory, an individual will feel better about personal information being displayed than on Twitter and Facebook.

Has Path gone wrong?

For social networking, Path may not work. This is what Om Malik at Gigacom suggests. The number of friends can be controlled with Facebook already states Malik. He then states that having an iPhone or smartphone is a requirement to be a friend on Path. He explained that his fifty closest buddies don't all have those phones. He claims that rivals of Path are DailyBooth, Instagr.am and Picplz. They have all raised a lot of cash off of it. Cash does not generally purchase buddies though. Usually it isn't because of a social network either.
