Toms Shoes: A Day Without Shoes for awareness

A Day Without Shoes is a yearly one-day event started by California business Toms Shoes.

A Day Without Shoes was began to help raise awareness of kids who don't have shoes or have access to shoes. The act encouraged by Tom Shoes for participants is to do just that – go a day, or even 10 minutes, without shoes – it won't take quick cash, and it is a simple act.

Awareness raise by Tom Shoes

The Southern California Business, Tom Shoes, was founded in conjunction with a non-profit organization.

Every pair of shoes Tom Shoes sells, they’ll give a pair to a child who needs it – giving guaranteed loans of opportunity for just the small price of a pair of shoes. Since Might 2006, when they were founded, the one-for-one program has given away over 600,000 pairs of shoes to kids in need.

2010 Day without shoes

"Bare Your Sole" is what A Day Without Shoes is asking people that usually wear shoes in America to do. Most kids in developing countries grow up barefoot.

Without shoes, kids would have to suffer cuts, scrapes, infections, and a condition called Podoconiosis. Without shoes, children are also often not allowed to attend school.

How will I be able to involve myself with A Day Without Shoes?

It is simple to get involved in a day without shoes. Start by being barefoot today. Whether you are just sitting at your desk in class or walking to work, just go without shoes.

Feel the experience of the cold sidewalk harming your feet that have no protection. Get the experience of life without shoes. If you need to get even more involved, you are able to register your shoelessness at www.onedaywithoutshoes.com. The hashtag #harwishoutshoes is what is getting used on twitter to track just what life without shoes must be like.

@TOMSshoes is also posting throughout the day. Different areas of the country should be posting Facebook groups for those joining in on the One Day Without Shoes.
