Nicollette Sheridan sues Desperate Housewives for assault

On “Desperate Housewives,” Nicollette Sheridan loved playing Edie Britt. Being voluntarily smacked around in the bedroom was fitting for the role of the man-eating, flirtatious Ms. Britt. But being smacked around by the producers of the program behind the scenes and terminated without good cause didn’t make for a good day on Wisteria Lane.

They could end up needing short term installment loans , because according to the New York Times, Nicollette Sheridan is now suing the producers of “Desperate Housewives” for assault and wrongful termination.

What brought the finale to Nicollette Sheridan’s character?

Nicollette Sheridan’s lawsuit claims that during an incident that occurred in September, 2008, she was struck by Marc Cherry, creator of the popular nighttime soap opera, when she asked Cherry about a line in the script. As noted by the Associated Press, Marc Cherry’s alleged response was to take Nicollette Sheridan to the side and “forcefully hit her with his hand across her face and head.”

Her pleas are reported to have fallen on deaf ears, when Nicollette Sheridan went directly to ABC to complain about Marc Cherry’s alleged violent treatment. Edie Britt was killed off not long after that. Sheridan believes it was retaliation by ABC because she dared to “make a fuss.”

Edie Britt’s death – what caused it?

No, it wasn’t a jilted lover or lover’s wife or girlfriend seeking revenge. As Zap2It remembers in the fateful 2009 episode of “Desperate Housewives,” it was a patented fatal auto crash. Orson, who was “running across the street after one of his breaking and entering,” was saved from death as Edie swerved to keep away from him. Her automobile struck a utility pole, and downed power lines hit the puddle of water into which Edie’s body had settled. It was the collision and electrocution that took the life out of her.

That event was followed by flashback episodes of the “Desperate Housewives,” remembering Edie Britt, Nicollette Sheridan’s character. Edie “smacks” some senses into Lynette and Bree in two of the flashbacks, in hopes they can find the strength to face their own troubles. Mrs. McCluskey “smacks” some sense into Edie’s son Travis when he finds out about her death and is barely fazed. In the final smack, Mrs. McCluskey “smacks down” Edie for her effort to sympathize with McCluskey over having lost a son.

Were all these smacking coincidental?

It is an intriguing word choice on the part of Zap2It, considering Nicollette Sheridan’s experience with Marc Cherry. The episode aired more than likely before the smack down was public knowledge, so it could be coincidental. However, Edie’s death itself was made clear in Gabby’s flashback from the very same episode, when Nicollette Sheridan’s character confided that she was going to die before her 50th birthday. How convenient, ABC. We’ll see if Nicollette Sheridan smacks you down, and whether you’ll need short term loans.
