Southwest Airlines provides reduced fares to South Carolina

Southwest Airlines is a budget airline that pushes the competition to keep up. The near elemental force of change Southwest exerts on the commercial airline industry has been named the “Southwest Effect,” writes USA Today. It is so effective, writes USA Today, that within an hour of Southwest Airlines’ announcement that avenues are being extended into South Carolina, the competition dropped its fares into the state by thirty percent or more.

Having Southwest Airlines around saves consumers cash

Southwest Airlines shook up the industry and made rivals start lowering rates within one hour of announcing the brand new routes to South Carolina, more specifically Charleston and Greenville-Spartanburg. Those seeking to enjoy what the Palmetto State has to offer will be able to more easily manage air travel now the Southwest Effect has blown in like a warm southwesterly wind. According to Charleston’s The Post and Courier, “within an hour of Southwest Airlines’ revealing information of its service launching from Charleston International Airport next year, local airfares plunged to $59 each way to Southwest-bound destinations — however only after March 13.”

Travel agents anticipate added industry

The Travel Management Group in Charleston’s John Powers commented on it. He said there can be a ton of savings because Southwest Airlines moved there. ”All major carriers cut their rates by at least thirty %,” he explained. He then moved on. “And most slashed prices considerably more.” For instance, one-way flights for which rivals used to charge $228 have dropped all the way down to $59 to match Southwest Airlines.

Other reports like this have come from News 4 of Charleston which is an ABC affiliate. March 13 had been when the lower airfare started. One flight from Charleston to Chicago had been $219, but lowered to $99. Now you can get flights to Chicago one way at $129. They have stop-over and previously cost $400. Flights out of Greenville-Spartanburg should also see dramatic decreases, say travel industry experts.
