The first round of Chevy Volt reviews is starting to appear. There is mixed sentiment about the auto. General Motors’ first foray to the modern electric auto and hybrid auto field is the Chevy Volt. For some time, the Chevy Volt has been one of the most hotly awaited vehicles in recent memory. Critics contend that the car is too reliant on its gas motor to truly compete with other hybrids. GM has countered that the auto isn’t a hybrid, however rather an electric automobile with a longer range.
Chevy Volt is not the car experts choose
The Chevrolet Volt is a long awaited entry into the electric automobile and also hybrid car industry by GM. Everyone has been waiting patiently. There was a concern that the auto wouldn’t be very good. Automotive News accounts that critics are saying the Volt isn’t really a true hybrid or electric vehicle. The critics all say that it cannot be a true electric or hybrid vehicle since when it’s accelerating, it always utilizes gas. General Motors has responded by saying that unlike the Toyota Prius and other hybrids, it’s actually an electric car with the range extended by a traditional gasoline engine.
Have not seen any bad driving reviews
There haven’t been very bad evaluations of the actual driving experience with the Chevy Volt. USA Today gave the Chevy Volt a good review. It had done a drive test of the vehicle. The acceleration is not terrifically hampered. General Motors is claiming 40 miles can be driven with a full charge, which seems true thus far. There is one big difference from most electric automobiles. The gas engine charges the battery when it is in use. This means that diligent charging will not be as necessary as with other electric automobiles, such as the Nissan Motors Leaf.
It can cost way too much to save
The Tesla Roadster costs a ton. The Chevy Volt will not cost that much but is nevertheless expensive. The onetime tax credit takes the price down to $34,000 although it retails at $40,000. It is $10,000 more expensive than other hybrids. The Prius and Honda Insight are some of the cheaper ones.
