Hollywood can’t do anything original, and that’s why Nightmare on Elm Street, one more remake, is coming out. I’d invest cheap payday loans into a project myself if it was interesting. The return of Freddy, going by the Nightmare on Elm Street, is not going over well. It may be that even Freddy Krueger himself would be afraid to see the film, fearing embarrassment.
Ebert slashes Nightmare on Elm Street
Roger Ebert reviewed it for the Chicago Sun Times, and is not amused. The Roger Ebert review for Nightmare on Elm Street garnered two thumbs down. He was bored. “I stared at Nightmare on Elm Street with weary resignation.” He also mentioned an endless supply of teenagers “who are introduced, haunted by nightmares and slashed to death by Freddy. So what?” Granted, it is a remake, and in franchises certain things go with the territory, but seems like he thought it was ground retrod to the point of it being boring. (A movie with no surprises is boring? Who knew?)
Rotten Tomatoes
The gaggle of critics on Rotten Tomatoes doesn’t think much of it either. Granted, horror films aren’t exactly Shakespeare. Rotten Tomatoes gave Nightmare on Elm Street a 13%. North, which most agree is the worst movie ever, has a 12% rating by way of comparison. That does not look good. One critic, Peter Howell, said “There are many things wrong with this remake of Nightmare on Elm Street, not the least of which is that it was made at all.” (Ouch!)
Perhaps Freddy is better off dead
A remake or reboot is always a gamble. They aren’t always horrible. (Batman Begins, for example was good.) Although reviews aren’t always the best source to learn the merits of any particular film, the Nightmare on Elm Street reviews give the appearance the remade film about Freddy Krueger, the man who kills people when they sleep, is putting people to sleep.
